BRILLIANT SHAKHTAR

In the second game in Group D Shakhtar beat Celtic 2-0. Among the Ukrainians, Cristiano Lucarelli was the best as he scored a goal and had a fine performamce. Brandao scored the quickest goal of the Champions League.

Mircea Lucescu and Cristiano Lucarelli's Shakhtar Donetsk started the Champions League well and are momentarily first in the group thanks to a better goal difference than Milan.

At the Olimpiyskyi Stadium of Donetsk Celtic's international experience counted for nothing. The Ukrainians began strongly and went ahead after five minutes, when the Brazilian Brandao beat goalkeeper Boruc after a pass by Fernandinho. It was the quickest goal of the 2007/2008 Champions League.

There isn't even time for Gordon Strachan's team to reorganize themselves, as Shakhtar found their second goal in only the 8th minute thanks to Cristiano Lucarelli. Rat made a run on the right wing and crossed a great ball in for the striker, Lucarelli showed no mercy and headed the ball past Boruc.

Lucescu's team continued to dominate, in the 29th and 33rd minutes Lucarelli and Brandao had the chance to score a third goal, but their efforts finished wide. Celtic became dangerous only thanks to dangerous free kicks by Nakamura.

In the second half Shakhtar limited themselves to controlling the game without risking anything. Strachan's formation suffered from a sterile front line and were dangerous only with some runs by Donati. In the final minutes, the Ukrainians could have scored a third goal but Castillo failed to find the goal with his shot.
