SAME ROAD, SAME POINTS

10/5/2007

On Sunday night at 20.30 Milan will face Lazio at the Olympic stadium in Rome. After the 6th matchday Lazio and Milan have many similarities. - EVERYTHING ON LAZIO –

MILAN - Sunday night at 20.30 Milan will face the away game at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome against Lazio for the 7th matchday of Serie A.

President Claudio Lotito's team has many 'points' in common with the Rossoneri. The two teams who will face each other on Sunday night, indeed, have begun the 2007/08 season in the same way and Lazio, exactly like Milan, are in 7th place along with Cagliari, with 7 points after 1 victory, 4 draws, and 1 defeat.

The only victory obtained by the Biancocelesti this season was on the 5th matchday, when Delio Rossi's team beat Cagliari 3-1, thanks to a brace from Goran Pandev and a goal by Tommaso Rocchi.
The preceding game, on the 4th matchday, ended in the only defeat so far in their season, as they were defeated 2-1 in Bergamo by Atalanta. Mutarelli scored for the Biancocelesti.
On the other matchdays Lazio have always drawn:
1st matchday: Lazio-Torino 2-2 (goals by Rocchi and Pandev);
2st matchday: Sampdoria-Lazio 0-0;
3st matchday: Lazio-Empoli 0-0;
6th matchday: Reggina-Lazio 1-1 (goal by Kolarov).

Last season Delio Rossi's team finished the 2006/2007 Serie A season in 3rd place, despite the initial 3-point docking, with 62 points from 18 victories, 11 draws, and 9 defeats.
The third place allowed Lotito's Biancocelesti to qualify for the 2007/2008 Champions League preliminaries.
In the first leg played on 14 August, Lazio drew 1-1 with Dinamo Bucarest at home (goal by Mutarelli), while the away game in Romaniaon 28 August saw the Biancocelesti triumph 3-1 thanks to a brace by Rocchi and a goal by Pandev.
In the group stages currently underway, Lazio are in group C: on the 1st matchday they drew 1-1 against Olimpiakos in Greece (goal by Zauri); on the 2nd matchday Lazio hosted Spanish champions Real Madrid, and drew 2-2 (brace by Pandev), in a game to which also Tommaso Rocchi participated, despite that he was a doubt prior to the match due to an ankle injury sustained during the latest league match.

The squad of last season has not been modified too much: Lotito and Rossi felt that the team which reached the third place last season deserved to be reconfirmed. The new arrivals were Del Nero from Brescia and Meghni from Bologna, while Jimenez left the Biancocelesti's shirt to join Inter.
